This exhibition is the culmination of a years worth of work from our Creative Studio programme
Creative Studio focuses on young people who find it difficult to access mainstream education and come to us from various education providers for daily or weekly sessions. The project is designed to bring out their creativity and confidence. It helps young people make a difference in their lives enabling them to, for example, return to school and learn to cope with the world, or gain a more positive outlook on their lives.
Soft Touch Arts has worked with around 60 children referred from a variety of educational providers around Leicestershire over the past year. The young people have used many artistic styles such as sculpture, furniture making, music, photography, digital manipulation, animation and painting. It’s a friendly arts project designed to give participants a more personalised experience either one-to-one or in small groups.
One parent of a participant said “Jenna wasn’t too keen on the photography
at the start, but she’s been showing us her work at home and she’s really quite proud of it which is brilliant. Thank you so much.”
The sessions are designed to keep young people engaged and moving on in their lives. Young people raise their aspirations which allow them to feel good about what they have achieved, and they gain social skills to enable them to get on well with other people.
