Creative Minds Exhibtion

Creative Minds

The Creative Minds Exhibition is a showcase of artwork created by young people with autism and various other needs and difficulties.

This exhibition is the culmination of a years worth of work from our Creative Studio programme

Creative Studio focuses on young people who find it difficult to access mainstream education and come to us from various education providers for daily or weekly sessions. The project is designed to bring out their creativity and confidence. It helps young people make a difference in their lives enabling them to, for example, return to school and learn to cope with the world, or gain a more positive outlook on their lives.

Soft Touch Arts has worked with around 60 children referred from a variety of educational providers around Leicestershire over the past year. The young people have used many artistic styles such as sculpture, furniture making, music, photography, digital manipulation, animation and painting. It’s a friendly arts project designed to give participants a more personalised experience either one-to-one or in small groups.

One parent of a participant said “Jenna wasn’t too keen on the photography

at the start, but she’s been showing us her work at home and she’s really quite proud of it which is brilliant. Thank you so much.”

The sessions are designed to keep young people engaged and moving on in their lives. Young people raise their aspirations which allow them to feel good about what they have achieved, and they gain social skills to enable them to get on well with other people.

From time to time we take on volunteers to help run our sMASHing pop-up cafe which sells quality sandwiches, soups and cakes using fresh, locally sourced ingredients with new weekly menus.

Suitable for SEN young people with Autism/SLD/MLD, this fully inclusive musical experience brings together many different styles of music from Rock to Samba, Hip Hop and the spoken word. Each session will include playing a variety of instruments e.g. drums, keyboards, guitars and percussion. Technology such as Ableton Push and Soundbeam will also be used to enhance the pieces of music that the young people create. No experience needed, just come along and enjoy making music with others.
