rokker is a magazine made by Gypsies and Travellers and settled young people. Users of the YMCA’s Education to Employment Project in Leicester and Hinckley designed images and wrote a bit about themselves. They thought up questions they wanted to ask young Gypsies and Travellers about their interests and lifestyles.
Young Gypsies and Travellers living in Market Harborough, Hinckley and Leicester designed images and answered the questions, talking about themselves and Gypsy and Traveller culture. The images and writing were put together into a magazine with the help of Soft Touch arts workers. The magazine shows that all the young people who contributed like doing similar things and have lots in common, they just live in a different way.
The rokker magazine is aimed at young people and those who work with them. It was funded by a Getting Results grant from the Equalities and Human Rights Commission.
The rokker magazines are available for 75p each including postage and VAT either from our shop or by contacting us directly.
