The Moving On DVD aims to facilitate more interaction and integration between Gypsies and Travellers and local young people.
The project worked with young people attending the YMCA's E2E project in Hinckley and young Gypsies and Travellers living on sites in Hinckley and Market Harborough. It documents the process of video dialogue between the Gypsies and Travellers and settled youth and gives an insight into Gypsy life and culture. Young Gypsies and Travellers talk about different subjects such as marriage and dating, school and work, and prejudice and conflict. The project culminated in the two groups meeting up on a trip to Tamworth Snowdome.
As a result of taking part the young people from the Hinckley E2E project have said. "We now have a better understanding about how Gypsies and Travellers live and we would make a point of speaking to them if we ever saw them out instead of calling them names".
The DVD was funded through the Commission for Racial Equality's Getting Results Programme.
The DVD is only available to organisations working with travellers, not to individuals. Please contact us directly to purchase this DVD.
