Jennifer, Lady Gretton DCVO JP, Lord-Lieutenant of Leicester and Leicestershire has been a patron of Soft Touch since 2013. Her annual Lord Lieutenant’s Awards for Young People rewards young people who overcome adversity and make a positive contribute to their communities and to help others. She first became aware of Soft Touch when Ben Clarke who attended Soft Touch music sessions via the Leicester Youth Offending Service was put forward for, and won the Young Person of the Year Award in 2010. Lady Gretton supports a number of local charities as a patron and we are delighted and grateful for her ongoing support.

Leicester born Bali Rai is a successful author and writer of books for teenagers. He has been a patron of Soft Touch Arts since 2013. He understands some of the issues that our young people face and the creative synergy between his writing and our creative approach to personal and social development for young people in challenging situations struck a chord.
Bali’s aim has always been to write the sort of books him and his mates (many of whom didn’t read) would have loved at school. Reading for pleasure is his passion and he tries to instil that in everyone he meets. As well as writing Bali now spend a large part of the year doing events, promotions and creative writing classes in schools and he has been shortlisted for, and won, many different awards.
