Improving life chances through creativity
Raising aspirations for young people in New Parks
The latest of a series of programmes of work in New Parks, Project Enable is a partnership with New College and resident-run community centre, Team Hub. Project Enable co-ordinates music, art and creative sessions between Soft Touch Arts, New College and Team Hub to engage young people who attend New College and/or Team Hub leading onto longer term development and progression sessions in New Parks and eventually at Soft Touch.
Through workshops and experiences, young people will use creativity to re-engage with their school and community. During the project young people will be supported with their mental health and well-being, address anxiety and isolation and be given the skills to break poor cyclical behaviour patterns. We aim to enable young people to widen their comfort zones, meet other young people from different communities, establish positive relationships and change attitudes.
Project Enable will provide creative projects that can have a positive impact and encourage ownership of the community. We want to enable young people to have pride in their local community, accountability for their education and leave a lasting creative legacy that they can be proud of for years to come!
Young people aged 11-16 who live in New Parks or attend New College can be referred to engagement sessions at Team Hub or on to the development and progression stages of the programme.
The programme will work towards these two locally-based organisations taking over the development and management of further work in the area at the end of the three-year programme.
