In April 2019 we started NoteAble, a three year programme of music workshops taking place at our Soft Touch Arts studios on New Walk.
The aim of the project is to target young people in challenging circumstances, young people with extra needs, and young people with less opportunity than others.
On Monday nights 4-6pm we are targeting young female musicians, with our girls only session, led by our women music leaders including
Leicester-based musician Sharon Collier – Multi instrumentalist and singer
The Tuesday evening sessions (4-7pm) are aimed at young musicians with higher needs, such as a learning disability or difficulties, autism or something similar, or young musicians who are at risk of offending or on orders from Youth Offending Services.
These sessions are led by the one and only I-mitri and assisted by local musicians such as Geno Ayres-Lynch and Rowan, who come with expansive skillsets as singers, producers, contemporary musicians and classical musicians.
To attend this session you need to complete a referral form which can be found here
We also run the infamous and increasingly popular Friday night sessions (4-7pm), these sessions are for young people who are from inner city/outer estates of Leicester. These young people are taking the next steps into the music scene, producing mixtapes and videos for social media, and preparing and playing gigs at local music venues.
These sessions are led by local Leicester hiphop legend Naji-Wavey
with support from urban artists such as:
Geno Ayres-Lynch and more!
We are also running outreach sessions with Leicestershire County Youth Offending Impact Team, this is scheduled to start in the summer of 2019 in Coalville!
