SOFT TOUCH ARTS IS LOOKING FOR NEW MANAGEMENT BOARD MEMBERS
Soft Touch Arts is seeking two new members to join our management board.
We having been going since 1986 and use arts, media and music to create positive change for young people across Leicestershire. Since 2015 we have been based at our own young people’s arts and heritage centre on New Walk in the centre of Leicester.
Soft Touch offers vulnerable young people opportunities to engage in creative projects which support their personal development. Our participants are young people whose life circumstances put them at a disadvantage in education and other areas of their lives. For example, young people who engage with us may: be from black or minority ethnic backgrounds, a disadvantaged neighbourhood; suffer from mental health challenges, live with autism spectrum or behavioural disabilities; have experience of the criminal justice and/or care systems.
We are actively looking to increase the diversity of the leadership team at Soft Touch by recruiting new board members who are reflective of the local community and our participants, so people who:
- Are from the communities we work with – this could be through having engaged with us as a young person; living in the areas we target (eg New Parks, Beaumont Leys or other deprived neighbourhoods); people with direct life experience of the kinds of challenges described above.
- Work with the partnership sectors we link with (in either a paid or voluntary capacity), eg mental and physical health/wellbeing; education; youth work; social services; criminal justice.
We want everyone to feel able to apply, even if you think the role maybe difficult or new for you – we will support and train new board members because we value your input. Your expertise is the knowledge and care you have for your community, or the community you work with, and that’s why we need you. In return benefits to you of being on our board include developing existing skills and growing new ones which could transfer to other areas of your life. You would also get to contribute to decisions about how Soft Touch works. Other benefits might be: enhancing your /cv; accessing training; networking opportunities and meeting new people and organisations; inputting into how Soft Touch works.
